Joseph Pollack recording L'il One in 'The Crumpets'

Children’s French animation series “Les Crumpets” is coming to the English speaking world and April Media Productions will be recording some of the characters for the series.

April Media Productions recently won the contract to record the first 53 episodes of the English adaptation and having held auditions at the studio with suitable candidates from local children’s stage school company “Stagecoach”. Having discovered the right voices for characters (approved by the producers), recording has commenced.

The Crumpets (formerly Les Crumpets) is an comedy animation about a family (of the same name) and their shenanigans of family life. There are about 20 characters in all in the show, and April media will be recording a few of them. The other characters are being recorded in other UK and New York studio’s.

Joseph Pollock, 11 from Plymouth (shown above) gained the role of the lead character “L’il One”, who’s the mischievous son, and recording of the first episode (of 53) is now complete.

Joseph has recently performed on stage at Torquay and in Belfast as ‘Benji’ alongside Jason Donovan as part of the national tour of Priscilla Queen of the Desert and at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth in An Inspector Calls.

The character of “The King” will be played by Alex Luscombe, also 11 from Plymouth.

Recording is expected to take 6 months, and the series will have its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in October 2014.

Kyle Coleman has his feet firmly planted in the sand at Bigbury-on-Sea

Kyle Coleman - Filming Standing on Solid Ground - Burgh Island

Autistic singer, Kyle Coleman who’s music is now reaching lands afar, sets foot on the temporary dry land of Bigbury-on-Sea to film a scene for part of his forthcoming music video for one of his songs ‘Standing on Solid Ground’.

The song is taken from his much anticipated forthcoming album which has been written for Kyle by John Carter and Caroline Coleman and is being recorded at April Media Productions recording studios in Plymouth, Devon.

Kyle, (25) from Cornwall is autistic and can barely speak a few words, but can sing! Read more about the quite remarkable Kyle Coleman, to understand why this album is something quite special and humbling! Following the quite remarkable worldwide press his debut album ‘Therefore I Am’ received, this is shaping up to be quite something and at least a world first.

It is a diverse album, and touches on different aspects of autism, yet remains very mainstream.  Producer, John Carter says ‘ We’re not trying to hammer home a ‘woe is me’ message about autism, but to educate people about how it affects people who have it, in both positive and not so positive ways. The music and lyrics are uplifting, yet extremely dark in places and take you off to another plain and give a real  insight into Kyle’s (and others) world which is at times fascinating, and this project has certainly been an education for me. That said, the key messages in the songs are mostly quite subtle, and so the songs remain relevant to everyone.  Without meaning to sound pretentious, this album is definitely a journey and not just a collection of songs, and I, for one am very excited about it’.

The music video to ‘Standing on Solid Ground’ has been filmed at a few stunning locations across the South West and is shaping up to be very dramatic (aerial flyby’s included!). It will compliment the song perfectly which is a real uplifting belter!

Filming of two other music video’s are soon to begin and the album is set for release in April 2014 to co-inside with World Autism Awareness week.

Very exciting and fun times for Kyle, and for all involved.

‘Growing Sales’ (Is what they do in South West & Wales)…. apparently!

Co-Op Managers Teambuilding Event

Regional Senior managers from The Co-Operative (other food outlets are available) came by from all over the country for their annual corporate teambuilding event at April Media Productions.

Our teambuilding events include having to rewrite a song and then make the video, pushing most, if not all outside their comfort zone.  A great day was had by all, and most likely never going to become a classic, but “Growing Sales” certainly met the criteria of the challenge set for the participants.

Dawn French Interview for BBC

Dawn French & Fiona Lindsay

National treasure and comedienne / author Dawn French popped by to Plymouth recording studios, April Media Productions this week to talk to Fiona Lindsay as part of a forthcoming BBC Radio 4 documentary.

The article explores if there is possibly any link between children of military parents (Dawn being one of them!) who were forced to move home on many occasions, and the performer instinct in them.

The programme airs in November and will include other interviews with actors Rupert Everett, Juliette Stevenson, and ex-Libertines frontman Pete Doherty.
